om bhadran karnebhih shrinuyaam devaah. bhadran pashyemaakshabhiryajatraah. sthirairangaistushtuvaansastanoobhih. vyashem devahitan yadaayuh.
O gods, may we hear with our ears what is good; may we see with our eyes what is good. With steady limbs and bodies, singing your praise, may we live out the span the gods have given.
svasti n indro vriddhashravaah. svasti nah pooshaa vishvavedaah. svasti nastaarkshyo arishtanemih. svasti no brihaspatirdadhaatu. om shaantih shaantih shaantih.
May Indra of great fame grant us well-being; may all-knowing Pushan, Tarkshya of the unharmed wheel, and Brihaspati grant us well-being. Om, peace, peace, peace.
om namaste ganapataye. tvamev pratyakshan tattvamasi. tvamev kevalan kartaasi. tvamev kevalan dhartaasi. tvamev kevalan hartaasi. tvamev sarvan khalvidan brahmaasi. tvan saakshaadaatmaasi nityam.
Om, salutations to you, Ganapati. You alone are the truth made visible. You alone create, you alone sustain, you alone dissolve. You alone are all this — Brahman itself. You are the Self, present and eternal.
ritan vachmi. satyan vachmi.
I speak what is right; I speak what is true.
av tvan maam. av vaktaaram. av shrotaaram. av daataaram. av dhaataaram. av anoochaanam. av shishyam. av pashchaattaat. av purastaat. avottaraattaat. av dakshinaattaat. av chordhvaattaat. avaadhastaat. sarvato maan paahi paahi samantaat.
Protect me. Protect the one who speaks and the one who hears, the one who gives and the one who keeps, the teacher and the student. Protect me from the west and the east, the north and the south, from above and below. Protect me on every side, all around.
tvan vaanmayastvan chinmayah. tvamaanandamayastvan brahmamayah. tvan sachchidaanandaadviteeyo'si. tvan pratyakshan brahmaasi. tvan jnaanamayo vijnaanamayo'si.
You are speech and consciousness, bliss and Brahman; you are being, consciousness and bliss, without a second. You are Brahman made visible; you are knowledge and wisdom itself.

This whole world is born from you, stands by you, will dissolve into you and returns to you. You are earth, water, fire, air and sky. You are the four levels of speech.

You are beyond the three gunas, the three states, the three bodies and the three times. You dwell always at the muladhara. You are the three powers in one. Yogis hold you in their minds, always.
tvan brahmaa tvan vishnustvan rudrastvamindrastvamagnistvan vaayustvan sooryastvan chandramaastvan brahm bhoorbhuvah svarom.
You are Brahma, Vishnu and Rudra; you are Indra, Agni and Vayu; you are the Sun and the Moon; you are Brahman — bhuh, bhuvah, svah and Om.
ganaadin poorvamuchchaary varnaadin tadanantaram. anusvaarah paratarah. ardhendulasitam. taaren riddham. etattav manusvaroopam.
First say 'ga', the first sound of 'gana', then 'a', the first of the letters, then the anusvara, crowned by the crescent and joined with Om — this is the form of your mantra.
gakaarah poorvaroopam. akaaro madhyamaroopam. anusvaarashchaantyaroopam. binduruttararoopam. naadah sandhaanam. sanhitaa sandhih. saishaa ganeshavidyaa.
'Ga' is its first part, 'a' its middle, the anusvara its end and the bindu what follows; the nada joins them, and their union makes it whole. This is the knowledge of Ganesha.
ganak rishih. nichridgaayatree chhandah. ganapatirdevataa. om gan ganapataye namah.
Its seer is Ganaka, its metre nichrid gayatri, its deity Ganapati. Om gam, salutations to Ganapati.
ekadantaay vidmahe vakratundaay dheemahi. tanno dantee prachodayaat.
We know the one-tusked; we hold in mind the one of the curved trunk. May that tusked one inspire us.
ekadantan chaturhastan paashamankushadhaarinam. radan ch varadan hastairbibhraanan mooshakadhvajam.
One-tusked and four-handed, bearing the noose and the goad, holding his tusk and granting boons, the mouse upon his banner;
raktan lambodaran shoorpakarnakan raktavaasasam. raktagandhaanuliptaangan raktapushpaih supoojitam.
red, great-bellied, with ears like winnowing fans, dressed in red, anointed with red sandal and honoured with red flowers;
bhaktaanukampinan devan jagatkaaranamachyutam. aavirbhootan ch srishtyaadau prakriteh purushaatparam. evan dhyaayati yo nityan s yogee yoginaan varah.
the god who is tender to his devotees, the imperishable cause of the world, who appeared at the dawn of creation, beyond Prakriti and Purusha — whoever holds him in mind thus each day is a yogi, first among yogis.
namo vraatapataye namo ganapataye namah pramathapataye namaste'stu lambodaraayaikadantaay vighnanaashine shivasutaay shreevaradamoortaye namah.
Salutations to the lord of the multitudes, to Ganapati, to the lord of Shiva's hosts; salutations to you, great-bellied and one-tusked, destroyer of obstacles, son of Shiva, the boon-giving form.
etadatharvasheershan yo'dheete. s brahmabhooyaay kalpate. s sarvavighnairn baadhyate. s sarvatah sukhamedhate. s panchamahaapaapaatpramuchyate.
Whoever studies this Atharvashirsha becomes fit to realise Brahman, is held back by no obstacle, thrives in happiness everywhere and is freed from the five great sins.
saayamadheeyaano divasakritan paapan naashayati. praataradheeyaano raatrikritan paapan naashayati. saayan praatah prayunjaano apaapo bhavati. sarvatraadheeyaano'pavighno bhavati. dharmaarthakaamamokshan ch vindati.
Read in the evening, it undoes the wrongs of the day; in the morning, those of the night; morning and evening, one is free of wrong; everywhere, free of obstacles — and one gains dharma, prosperity, fulfilment and liberation.
idamatharvasheershamashishyaay n deyam. yo yadi mohaaddaasyati s paapeeyaan bhavati. sahasraavartanaadyan yan kaamamadheete tan tamanen saadhayet.
This Atharvashirsha is not to be given to one who is not a disciple; whoever gives it out of delusion does wrong. By a thousand recitations, whatever wish one reads it for is accomplished.
anen ganapatimabhishinchati s vaagmee bhavati. chaturthyaamanashnanjapati s vidyaavaan bhavati. ityatharvanavaakyam. brahmaadyaavaranan vidyaat. n bibheti kadaachaneti.
Whoever bathes Ganapati while reciting it becomes eloquent; whoever recites it on Chaturthi without eating becomes learned. So says Atharvan. Whoever knows him as the one who enfolds even Brahma is never afraid.
yo doorvaankurairyajati s vaishravanopamo bhavati. yo laajairyajati s yashovaan bhavati. s medhaavaan bhavati. yo modakasahasren yajati s vaanchhitaphalamavaapnoti. yah saajyasamidbhiryajati s sarvan labhate s sarvan labhate.
Whoever offers durva becomes like Kubera; whoever offers puffed rice gains renown and wisdom; whoever offers a thousand modak gains the fruit desired; whoever offers samidh with ghee gains everything.

Whoever teaches it rightly to eight brahmins shines like the sun. Reciting it at a solar eclipse, by a great river or before a murti, one masters the mantra and is freed from great obstacles, great sins and great faults, and comes to know all — whoever knows this. So ends the Upanishad.

May we hear and see what is good, and may the gods grant us well-being. Om, peace, peace, peace.
