The almanac a family opens, made for where it lives

Kalava keeps a Hindu family's whole tradition in one place: the day, the year, the pujas, the texts and each person's chart, for its own town, with no ads.

Kalava is an iPhone app and this website: a Hindu calendar, panchang, puja guide, library and kundli for a family, worked out for the town the family lives in. It began with a simple observation: the almanacs most families open are right about India and careless about everywhere else, and they are covered in advertisements for gemstones and paid pujas.

Every date, time and chart on Kalava is computed by its own engine, from the positions of the Sun, the Moon and the planets, for the place and the time zone a family is in, and measured against the almanacs that are printed. The texts are the whole texts, with their meaning. The words a family reads are written in its own English, Hindi, Gujarati and Telugu.

Who makes it

Kalava is made by Yashvardhan Singh Deora, an independent developer, with the help of the families who use it. It is not owned by an astrology company and does not sell consultations.

How it is paid for

The panchang, the calendar, every festival's page, the whole Library and the free tools are free and always will be. The app's membership opens the guided pujas, the whole family's charts and readings, and the day-finder; the books are sold once. There are no advertisements anywhere.

Write to us

If a date or a time here differs from your own panchang, write to hello@kalava.app with the town and the day. Every report is answered.
