Opening doha

kanaka badana kuṁḍala makara, muktā mālā aṁga.

His golden body is adorned with crocodile-shaped earrings and a pearl garland.

padmāsana sthita dhyāie, śaṁkha cakra ke saṁga.

One should holds in dhyan him seated in the lotus posture, holding a conch and a discus.

Chaupai

jaya savitā jaya jayati divākara, sahasrāṁśu saptāśva timirahara.

Victory to Savita, victory to the day-maker Divakar, the thousand-rayed one who rides a seven-horse chariot and destroys darkness.

bhānu, pataṁga, marīcī, bhāskara, savitā, haṁsa, sunūra, vibhākara.

You are hailed by the names Bhanu, Patang, Marichi, Bhaskar, Savita, Hans, Sunur, and Vibhakar.

vivasvāna, āditya, vikartana, mārtaṇḍa, harirūpa, virocana.

You are also known as Vivasvan, Aditya, Vikartan, Martand, the form of Hari, and Virochan.

ambaramaṇi, khaga, ravi kahalāte, veda hiraṇyagarbha kaha gāte.

You are called Ambarmani, Khag, and Ravi, and the Vedas sing of you as Hiranyagarbha.

sahasrāṁśu, pradyotana, kahi kahi, munigana hota prasanna modalahi.

Sages become joyful and delighted when they repeatedly call you Sahasranshu and Pradyotan.

The glory of your celestial sphere is incredibly unique, and I sacrifice myself to your radiant form.

uccaiśravā sadr̥śa haya jote, dekhi purandara lajjita hote.

Seeing your horses, which are as magnificent as Uchchaishrava, even Indra feels ashamed.

mitra, marīci, bhānu, aruṇa, bhāskara, savitā,.

You are Mitra, Marichi, Bhanu, Arun, Bhaskar, and Savita.

sūrya, arka, khaga, kalihara, pūṣā, ravi,.

You are Surya, Ark, Khag, Kalihar, Pusha, and Ravi.

āditya, nāma lai, hiraṇyagarbhāya namaḥ kahikai.

Taking the name Aditya, those who keep him say "Salutations to Hiranyagarbha."

dvādasa nāma prema so gāvaiṁ, mastaka bāraha bāra navāvai.

Those who sing these twelve names with love and bow their heads twelve times receive your grace.

cāra padāratha so jana pāvai, dukha dāridra agha puṁja nasāvai.

Those who do attain the four goals of life, and their sorrows, poverty, and sins are destroyed.

namaskāra ko camatkāra yaha, vidhi harihara kau kr̥pāsāra yaha.

This is the miracle of offering salutations to you, which holds the essence of the grace of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva.

sevai bhānu tumahiṁ mana lāī, aṣṭasiddhi navanidhi tehiṁ pāī.

By serving you, Bhanu, with a devoted mind, one attains the eight supernatural powers and nine treasures.

bāraha nāma uccārana karate, sahasa janama ke pātaka ṭarate.

By pronouncing your twelve names, the sins of a thousand births are washed away.

upākhyāna jo karate tavajana, ripu soṁ jamalahate sotehi chana.

Those who recite your stories destroy their enemies in an instant.

chana suta juta parivāra baḍhatu hai, prabala moha ko phaṁda kaṭatu hai.

Their wealth, children, and family grow, and the strong trap of worldly attachment is cut.

arka śīśa ko rakṣā karate, ravi lalāṭa para nitya biharate.

As Ark, you protect the head, and as Ravi, you always dwell on the forehead.

sūrya netra para nitya virājata, karṇa desa para dinakara chājata.

As Surya, you always reside in the eyes, and as Dinkar, you adorn the ears.

bhānu nāsikā vāsakarahu nitya, bhāskara karata sadā mukha kau hita.

As Bhanu, you always dwell in the nose, and as Bhaskar, you always do good for the face.

oṁṭha rahaiṁ parjanya hamāre, rasanā bīca tīkṣṇa basa pyāre.

As Parjanya, you reside on our lips, and as the sharp one, you dwell on the tongue.

kaṁṭha suvarṇa reta kī śobhā, tigma tejasaḥ kāṁdhe lobhā.

Your throat has the beauty of golden sand, and your fierce radiance adorns the shoulders.

24

pūṣāṁ bāhū mitra pīṭhahiṁ para, tvaṣṭā varuṇa rahata sūṣanakara.

As Pusha, you protect the arms, as Mitra, the back, and as Tvashta and Varun, you provide warmth.

25

yugala hātha para rakṣā kārana, bhānumāna urasarma sudarasana.

You protect both hands, and as Bhanuman, you are the beautiful protector of the chest.

26

basata nābhi āditya manohara, kaṭimahaṁ, haṁsa rahata mana mudabhara.

As the beautiful Aditya, you dwell in the navel, and as Hans, you reside in the waist, filling the mind with joy.

27

jaṁghā gopati savitā bāsā, gupta divākara karata hulāsā.

As Gopati and Savita, you dwell in the thighs, and as the hidden Divakar, you bring joy.

28

vivasvāna pada kī rakhavārī, bāhara basate nita tama hārī.

As Vivasvan, you protect the feet, and as the destroyer of darkness, you always dwell outside.

29

sahasrāṁśu sarvāṁga samhārai, rakṣā kavaca vicitra vicāre.

As Sahasranshu, you protect all parts of the body, acting as a wonderful protective shield.

30

asa jojana apane mana māhīṁ, bhaya jagabīca karahuṁ tehi nāhīṁ.

Those who keep you in their minds for a Yojana have no fear in this world.

31

daridra kuṣṭa tehiṁ kabahuṁ na vyāpai, jojana yāko mana maṁha jāpai.

Poverty and leprosy never afflict those who recite your name in their minds for a Yojana.

32

aṁdhakāra jaga kā jo haratā, nava prakāśa se ānanda bharatā.

You are the destroyer of the world's darkness, filling it with joy through your new light.

33

graha gana grasi na miṭāvata jāhī, koṭi bāra maiṁ pranavauṁ tāhī.

Even the planets cannot erase the one you grasp, so I bow to you ten million times.

maṁda sadr̥śa suta jaga meṁ jāke, dharmarāja sama adbhuta bāṁke.

Your son Shani is slow-moving in this world, and Dharmaraj is wonderfully unique like you.

dhanya-dhanya tuma dinamani devā, kiyā karata suramuni nara sevā.

Blessed, blessed are you, O lord of the Day; gods, sages, and humans all serve you.

bhakti bhāvayuta pūrṇa niyama soṁ, dūra haṭata so bhava ke bhrama soṁ.

With devotion and full discipline, the illusions of the world are driven away.

parama dhanya so nara tanadhārī, haiṁ prasanna jehi para tama hārī.

Supremely blessed is that embodied human upon whom you, the destroyer of darkness, are pleased.

aruṇa māgha mahaṁ sūrya phālguna, madhu vedāṁga nāma ravi udayana.

You are Arun in Magh, Surya in Phalgun, and Ravi Udayan in Madhu and Vedang.

bhānu udaya baisākha gināvai, jyeṣṭha indra āṣāḍha ravi gāvai.

You are counted as Bhanu Uday in Baisakh, and sung as Indra in Jyeshtha and Ravi in Ashadha.

yama bhādoṁ āśvina himaretā, kātika hota divākara netā.

You are Yama in Bhadon, Himareta in Ashwin, and Divakar is the leader in Kartik.

agahana bhinna viṣṇu haiṁ pūsahiṁ, puruṣa nāma ravi haiṁ malamāsahiṁ.

You are Vishnu in Agahan, Pusha in Paush, and your name is Ravi in the intercalary month.

Closing doha

bhānu cālīsā prema yuta, gāvaiṁ je nara nitya.

Those who sing this Bhanu Chalisa daily with love and devotion.

sukha sampatti lahivividha, hoṁhiṁ sadā kr̥takr̥tya.

They attain various kinds of happiness and wealth, and their lives are forever fulfilled.
