Shani (Saturn)
  1. Grahas
  2. Shani (Saturn)

One of the nine

Shani (Saturn)

Shani is work, time and discipline — the servant among the grahas who turns out to be the judge. It rules your profession and labour, old age, patience, and the people who serve and wait, and it gives slowly: delay first, then something that lasts. Hardship from Shani is meant to shape you, and GP says it ends in good.

Strong

A strong Shani — in the 7th house where it has dik bala, exalted in Libra, in its own Capricorn or Aquarius, or in a birth in the dark fortnight — gives patience, honesty, thrift and staying power: you work hard, keep secrets, finish what you start and build something that outlasts you, and you are trusted with land, labour and responsibility. Shani rewards late; its results ripen between about 30 and 42.

Weak

An afflicted Shani — debilitated in Aries, or pressing on Chandra, the lagna or the 10th — shows as delay, fatigue and a heaviness that makes you doubt yourself: late starts, work that goes unrewarded for a while, distance from people, and duties you did not choose. The areas to care for are the joints, bones, teeth and nerves; see a doctor for anything persistent. Serve the old and those who labour, keep Saturdays for Hanuman ji or Shani Dev, and give black sesame, mustard oil or black cloth.
