జయ గణేశ గిరిజా సువన, మంగల మూల సుజాన।
కహత అయోధ్యాదాస తుమ, దేహు అభయ వరదాన॥
Glory to Ganesh ji, son of Girija, the root of all that is good and the knower of all. Ayodhyadas says: grant us the boon of fearlessness.
Chaupai
జయ గిరిజా పతి దీన దయాలా।
సదా కరత సన్తన ప్రతిపాలా॥
Glory to Shiv ji, husband of Girija, merciful to the lowly, who ever protects the saints.
భాల చన్ద్రమా సోహత నీకే।
కానన కుణ్డల నాగఫనీ కే॥
The crescent Moon shines beautifully on His brow, and earrings of serpent-hoods adorn His ears.
అంగ గౌర శిర గంగ బహాయే।
ముణ్డమాల తన క్షార లగాఏ॥
His body is fair, the Ganga flows from His head, He wears a garland of skulls, and His body is smeared with vibhuti.
వస్త్ర ఖాల బాఘమ్బర సోహే।
ఛవి కో దేఖి నాగ ముని మోహే॥
He is clad in the tiger skin; beholding His form, even the Nagas and the sages are enchanted.
మైనా మాతు కీ హవే దులారీ।
బామ అంగ సోహత ఛవి న్యారీ॥
The beloved daughter of Mother Maina graces His left side, a beauty beyond compare.
కర త్రిశూల సోహత ఛవి భారీ।
కరత సదా శత్రున క్షయకారీ॥
The trishul shines in His hand in great splendour, ever destroying His foes.
నన్ది గణేశ సోహై తహఁ కైసే।
సాగర మధ్య కమల హైం జైసే॥
Nandi and Ganesh ji look as lovely there as lotuses in the midst of the ocean.
కార్తిక శ్యామ ఔర గణరాఊ।
యా ఛవి కో కహి జాత న కాఊ॥
Kartikeya, dark of hue, and Ganapati: no one can put this sight into words.
దేవన జబహీం జాయ పుకారా।
తబ హీ దుఖ ప్రభు ఆప నివారా॥
Whenever the devas came and called upon You, You took away their sorrow at once, O Prabhu.
కియా ఉపద్రవ తారక భారీ।
దేవన సబ మిలి తుమహిం జుహారీ॥
When the asura Taraka wrought great havoc, all the devas came together and bowed to You in prayer.
తురత షడానన ఆప పఠాయఉ।
లవనిమేష మహఁ మారి గిరాయఉ॥
At once You sent six-faced Kartikeya, who struck the asura down in the blink of an eye.
ఆప జలంధర అసుర సంహారా।
సుయశ తుమ్హార విదిత సంసారా॥
You Yourself destroyed the asura Jalandhar, and Your glory is known throughout the world.
త్రిపురాసుర సన యుద్ధ మచాఈ।
సబహిం కృపా కర లీన బచాఈ॥
You gave battle to Tripurasur and, in Your grace, saved all.
కియా తపహిం భాగీరథ భారీ।
పురబ ప్రతిజ్ఞా తాసు పురారీ॥
When Bhagirath performed severe tapas, You fulfilled his sankalp, O Purari, destroyer of Tripura.
దానిన మహఁ తుమ సమ కోఉ నాహీం।
సేవక స్తుతి కరత సదాహీం॥
Among givers there is none like You; Your sevaks sing Your praise always.
వేద నామ మహిమా తవ గాఈ।
అకథ అనాది భేద నహిం పాఈ॥
The Vedas have sung the glory of Your name, yet none has found the secret of You, the Ineffable, the Beginningless.
ప్రకటీ ఉదధి మంథన మేం జ్వాలా।
జరత సురాసుర భఏ విహాలా॥
When the fire of poison rose from the churning of the ocean, devas and asuras alike burned and were in anguish.
కీన్హీ దయా తహం కరీ సహాఈ।
నీలకణ్ఠ తబ నామ కహాఈ॥
You took pity and came to their aid, drinking the poison; so You came to be called Neelkanth, the Blue-throated.
పూజన రామచంద్ర జబ కీన్హా।
జీత కే లంక విభీషణ దీన్హా॥
When Shri Ram offered puja to You, He conquered Lanka and gave it to Vibhishan.
సహస కమల మేం హో రహే ధారీ।
కీన్హ పరీక్షా తబహిం త్రిపురారీ॥
As Shri Ram was offering You a thousand lotuses, You put Him to the test, O Tripurari.
ఏక కమల ప్రభు రాఖేఉ జోఈ।
కమల నయన పూజన చహం సోఈ॥
You hid one lotus, O Prabhu, and the lotus-eyed Shri Ram resolved to offer His own eye in its place.
కఠిన భక్తి దేఖీ ప్రభు శంకర।
భయే ప్రసన్న దిఏ ఇచ్ఛిత వర॥
Seeing such steadfast bhakti, O Shankar, You were pleased and granted Him the boon He desired.
జయ జయ జయ అనంత అవినాశీ।
కరత కృపా సబ కే ఘటవాసీ॥
Glory, glory, glory to You, the Infinite, the Imperishable, who dwell in every heart and show grace to all.
దుష్ట సకల నిత మోహి సతావై।
భ్రమత రహే మోహి చైన న ఆవై॥
The wicked torment me without end; I wander in confusion and find no peace.
త్రాహి త్రాహి మైం నాథ పుకారో।
యహ అవసర మోహి ఆన ఉబారో॥
"Save me, save me," I cry to You, O Master; come now and rescue me in this hour.
లై త్రిశూల శత్రున కో మారో।
సంకట సే మోహి ఆన ఉబారో॥
Take up Your trishul and slay my foes; come and deliver me from this peril.
మాతు పితా భ్రాతా సబ కోఈ।
సంకట మేం పూఛత నహిం కోఈ॥
Mother, father, brothers, everyone: in a time of trouble, no one asks after us.
స్వామీ ఏక హై ఆస తుమ్హారీ।
ఆయ హరహు అబ సంకట భారీ॥
O Swami, You alone are my hope; come now and take away this heavy trouble.
ధన నిర్ధన కో దేత సదాహీం।
జో కోఈ జాంచే వో ఫల పాహీం॥
You ever give wealth to the poor; whoever asks of You receives the fruit.
అస్తుతి కేహి విధి కరౌం తుమ్హారీ।
క్షమహు నాథ అబ చూక హమారీ॥
How am I to sing Your praise? O Master, forgive us our failings.
శంకర హో సంకట కే నాశన।
మంగల కారణ విఘ్న వినాశన॥
O Shankar, You destroy all troubles; You are the cause of all good and the remover of obstacles.
యోగీ యతి ముని ధ్యాన లగావైం।
నారద శారద శీశ నవావైం॥
Yogis, ascetics and sages hold You in dhyana; Narad and Saraswati Maa bow their heads before You.
నమో నమో జయ నమో శివాయ।
సుర బ్రహ్మాదిక పార న పాయ॥
I bow to You again and again; glory to You, Om Namah Shivaya. Even Brahma ji and the devas could not find the end of You.
జో యహ పాఠ కరే మన లాఈ।
తా పార హోత హై శమ్భు సహాఈ॥
Whoever recites this path with a whole heart crosses over, for Shambhu is their help.
ౠనియా జో కోఈ హో అధికారీ।
పాఠ కరే సో పావన హారీ॥
Whoever is burdened with debt and recites this path is freed and made pure.
పుత్ర హీన కర ఇచ్ఛా కోఈ।
నిశ్చయ శివ ప్రసాద తేహి హోఈ॥
Anyone desiring a child will surely be blessed with one by Shiv ji's grace.
పణ్డిత త్రయోదశీ కో లావే।
ధ్యాన పూర్వక హోమ కరావే॥
Call a pandit on Trayodashi, the thirteenth tithi, and have a havan done with a mind held on Shiv ji.
త్రయోదశీ బ్రత కరే హమేశా।
తన నహీం తాకే రహే కలేశా॥
Whoever keeps the Trayodashi vrat always will have no suffering in the body.
ధూప దీప నైవేద్య చఢావే।
శంకర సమ్ముఖ పాఠ సునావే॥
Offer dhoop, a diya and naivedya, and recite this path before Shiv ji.
జన్మ జన్మ కే పాప నసావే।
అన్తవాస శివపుర మేం పావే॥
The sins of many births are destroyed, and in the end one dwells in Shivpur, Shiv ji's own abode.
కహై అయోధ్యా ఆస తుమ్హారీ।
జాని సకల దుఃఖ హరహు హమారీ॥
Ayodhyadas says: "You are my hope. Knowing all our sorrows, take them away."
Closing doha
నిత్య నేమ కర ప్రాతః హీ, పాఠ కరౌం చాలీసా।
తుమ మేరీ మనోకామనా, పూర్ణ కరో జగదీశ॥
Keeping it as a daily rule, I recite this Chalisa every morning. O Jagdish, Master of the world, fulfil the wishes of my heart.
మగసర ఛఠి హేమన్త ౠతు, సంవత చౌసఠ జాన।
అస్తుతి చాలీసా శివహి, పూర్ణ కీన కల్యాణ॥
On the sixth day of the Margashirsha month during the Hemant season, in the Samvat year 64, this Chalisa in praise of Shiv ji was completed for the welfare of all.
