Glory to Ganesh ji, son of Girija, the root of all that is good and the knower of all. Ayodhyadas says: grant us the boon of fearlessness.

Glory to Shiv ji, husband of Girija, merciful to the lowly, who ever protects the saints.

The crescent Moon shines beautifully on His brow, and earrings of serpent-hoods adorn His ears.

His body is fair, the Ganga flows from His head, He wears a garland of skulls, and His body is smeared with vibhuti.
vastr khaal baaghambar sohe. chhavi ko dekhi naag muni mohe.
He is clad in the tiger skin; beholding His form, even the Nagas and the sages are enchanted.

The beloved daughter of Mother Maina graces His left side, a beauty beyond compare.

The trishul shines in His hand in great splendour, ever destroying His foes.

Nandi and Ganesh ji look as lovely there as lotuses in the midst of the ocean.

Kartikeya, dark of hue, and Ganapati: no one can put this sight into words.

Whenever the devas came and called upon You, You took away their sorrow at once, O Prabhu.

At once You sent six-faced Kartikeya, who struck the asura down in the blink of an eye.

You took pity and came to their aid, drinking the poison; so You came to be called Neelkanth, the Blue-throated.

When Shri Ram offered puja to You, He conquered Lanka and gave it to Vibhishan.

As Shri Ram was offering You a thousand lotuses, You put Him to the test, O Tripurari.
ek kamal prabhu raakheu joee. kamal nayan poojan chahan soee.
You hid one lotus, O Prabhu, and the lotus-eyed Shri Ram resolved to offer His own eye in its place.

Seeing such steadfast bhakti, O Shankar, You were pleased and granted Him the boon He desired.

O Shankar, You destroy all troubles; You are the cause of all good and the remover of obstacles.

I bow to You again and again; glory to You, Om Namah Shivaya. Even Brahma ji and the devas could not find the end of You.

Call a pandit on Trayodashi, the thirteenth tithi, and have a havan done with a mind held on Shiv ji.

Offer dhoop, a diya and naivedya, and recite this path before Shiv ji.

The sins of many births are destroyed, and in the end one dwells in Shivpur, Shiv ji's own abode.
kahai ayodhyaa aas tumhaaree. jaani sakal duhkh harahu hamaaree.
Ayodhyadas says: "You are my hope. Knowing all our sorrows, take them away."

On the sixth day of the Margashirsha month during the Hemant season, in the Samvat year 64, this Chalisa in praise of Shiv ji was completed for the welfare of all.
