Shri Ram

Shri Ram

Dharma in a person

śrī rāmacandra kr̥pālu bhaju mana haraṇa bhavabhaya dāruṇam.

O my mind, sing of the merciful Shri Ramchandra, who takes away the dreadful fear of this world.

navakaṁja locana kaṁja mukha kara kaṁja pada kaṁjāruṇam.

His eyes are like a fresh lotus, His face a lotus, His hands lotuses, and His feet lotuses red as the dawn.

kaṁdarpa agaṇita amita chavi nava nīla nīrada sundaram.

His beauty surpasses countless Kamdevs; He is lovely as a fresh dark rain-cloud.

paṭapīta mānahum̐ taḍita ruci śuci naumi janaka sutāvaram.

His yellow garment gleams pure as lightning. I bow to Him, the beloved of Janak’s daughter.

bhaju dīnabandhu dineśa dānava daityavaṁśa nikandanam.

Sing of Him, the friend of the lowly, radiant as the Sun, who uprooted the line of the danavas and daityas;

raghunanda ānam̐dakanda kośala canda daśaratha nandanam.

the joy of the Raghus, the root of all bliss, the moon of Kosala, the son of Dasharath.

sira mukuṭa kuṁḍala tilaka cāru udāru aṁga vibhūṣaṇam.

A crown on His head, earrings, a lovely tilak, and every limb richly adorned;

ājānubhuja śara cāpa dhara saṅgrāma jita kharadūṣaṇam.

His arms reach to His knees; He bears the bow and arrows, and conquered Khar and Dushan in battle.

iti vadati tulasīdāsa śaṁkara śeṣa muni mana raṁjanam.

So says Tulsidas: O You who gladden the minds of Shankar, of Shesh and of the sages,

mama hr̥daya kaṁja nivāsa kuru kāmādi khaladala gaṁjanam.

make Your dwelling in the lotus of my heart, O destroyer of desire and all its wicked host.

manu jāhiṁ rāceu milihi so baru sahaja suṁdara sām̐varo.

"The one your heart is set on, the naturally handsome, dark-skinned groom, will be yours —

karuṇānidhānu sujāna sīlu sanehu jānata rāvaro.

he is the treasure of compassion, all-knowing, and he knows your goodness and your love."

ehi bhām̐ti gauri asīsa suni siya sahita hiyam̐ haraṣī alī.

Hearing Gauri Maa bless her this way, Sita and her companions were glad at heart;

tulasī bhavānihi pūji puni puni mudita mana maṁdira calī.

says Tulsi, worshipping Bhavani again and again, she went back to the palace with a joyful heart.

jāni gaurī anukūla siya hiya haraṣu na jāi kahi.

Knowing Gauri Maa to be gracious to her, the joy in Sita's heart was beyond words;

maṁjula maṁgala mūla bāma aṁga pharakana lage.

and her left side, the root of all that is lovely and auspicious, began to throb.
