शुभं करोति कल्याणम् आरोग्यं धनसम्पदा।
Bringer of auspiciousness, of well-being, of health and wealth —
शत्रुबुद्धिविनाशाय दीपज्योतिर्नमोऽस्तु ते॥
destroyer of the enemy that is a hostile mind — light of the diya, I bow to you.
दिव्या दिव्या दीपत्कार
O diya, O diya, bright and shining,
कानीं कुंडलें मोतीहार
earrings in your ears, a string of pearls;
दिव्याला पाहून नमस्कार
seeing the diya, I bow.
दिवा लावला देवांपाशी
The diya is lit beside the gods,
उजेड पडला तुळशीपाशीं
its light falls by the tulsi;
माझा नमस्कार सर्व देवांपाशी
my salutation to all the gods.
तिळाचे तेल कापसाची वात
Sesame oil, and a wick of cotton.
दीपज्योतिः परब्रह्म दीपज्योतिर्जनार्दनः ।
The diya's flame is the highest Brahman; the diya's flame is Janardana.
दीपो हरतु मे पापं संध्यादीप नमोऽस्तुते ॥
May the diya take away my faults. Evening diya, I bow to you.
