Times for Columbus, OH in EDT, UTC−4, rounded to the minute, computed by Kalava's engine for this town's own sunrise, sunset and moonrise. How

For six days after Deepavali, Tamil houses keep Lord Murugan's vrat, saying the Kanda Sashti Kavasam morning and evening, as the Devas kept six days with Him before the war. On the sixth evening comes the Soorasamharam, when the Vel split Surapadman and Murugan took him in as His peacock and His rooster; the next day is His wedding to Deivanai.

The vrat

Keep the same form on all six days. The elderly, the unwell, and anyone pregnant or nursing eat simple meals and keep the puja and the Kavasam: the vrat is kept to suit the body.
