A peeta or chaurangThe low wooden seat the books will rest on for four days, in a corner where nobody needs to move it. Washed and dried a week ahead.
Saraswati Maa's picture or murtiSeated on the white lotus with the veena. Where there is none, Saraswati Maa is invited upon the books alone.
A white clothSilk where the house has it, else clean cotton, to spread on the peeta under the books.
The books and pensThe children's school books, the pens they write with, and the Gita or pothi the family keeps. Wipe each one clean the day before.
The account books and the instrumentThe house's account books, and the veena, harmonium or any instrument the house plays.
A ghee diyaWith enough wicks and ghee for a diya each of the four days.
