Times for Columbus, OH in EDT, UTC−4, rounded to the minute, computed by Kalava's engine for this town's own sunrise, sunset and moonrise. How
On every Sunday of Bhadraba, unmarried Odia girls keep this osha for their brothers and kin far from home, with Mangala Maa in a kothi of flowers and khuda — broken rice — as Her favourite offering. At dusk they tell the story of Taapoi, the merchant's daughter who kept it while her seven brothers were at sea, and whose prayer to Mangala Maa brought them home.
The vrat
Kept by the girls who keep the osha. Families differ on when it is opened: many open it in the morning, after the Balunka and the balabhoga; the old pothis keep the day to the evening osha. A girl who is unwell eats as usual.
