How to do the Guruvayur Ekadasi puja at home

One meal only, the orikkal, and the tulasi leaves for tomorrow picked today.

1. Dashami

   Dashami · one meal only

   1. Eat once today, a simple vegetarian meal, and nothing more until the vratham is complete.
   2. Pick the tulasi leaves for tomorrow now, and keep them in a little water.
   3. Keep the evening quiet, and sleep early.

   The orikkal — one meal — on Dashami is the first of the vratham's three days. Tulasi is not plucked on Ekadasi itself.

   

The bath without oil, white clothes, the ghee diya and the arati before Guruvayurappan, the Vishnu Gayatri and the names, and the tulasi.

   1. Bathe in the early morning, without the oil bath of other days.
   2. Put on clean, washed white clothes.
   3. Sit for a moment with the mind on Guruvayurappan before anything else.

   1. Set Guruvayurappan's picture on a clean place, with a few flowers before it.
   2. Light a ghee diya before the picture.
   3. Fold your hands for the verse.
