The first evening of the Diwali days. A diya is set at the door for Yamraj, so that no one in the house goes before their time, and Lakshmi Maa, Kuber ji and Dhanvantari ji, who came out of the ocean with the pot of amrit on this day, are given puja at dusk.
The vrat
Most homes keep no vrat on this day. Where one is kept, it is opened the same evening, after the Lakshmi–Kuber puja. Anyone unwell, pregnant, nursing, diabetic or elderly eats as usual: the Yama diya and the puja are the day.
