The day, hour by hour
Sunrise
6:52 AMThe day begins here: the house is finished and washed, the doorway made ready, and the diya for Yamraj is shaped before dusk.
Sunset · the Yama diya
5:32 PMAt nightfall, as the day ends, the diya for Yamraj is lit and set at the main door facing south. Do it before the evening puja.
Pradosh kaal · the puja
5:32 PM – 8:12 PMPradosh kaal — from sunset through the first part of the night, while the Trayodashi holds — is the hour for the Lakshmi–Kuber puja. Its middle stretch, when a steady (sthir) sign is rising, is held the best.
Times for Phoenix, AZ in MST, UTC−7, rounded to the minute, computed by Kalava's engine for this town's own sunrise, sunset and moonrise. How
The first evening of the Diwali days. A diya is set at the door for Yamraj, so that no one in the house goes before their time, and Lakshmi Maa, Kuber ji and Dhanvantari ji, who came out of the ocean with the pot of amrit on this day, are given puja at dusk.
The vrat
Most homes keep no vrat on this day. Where one is kept, it is opened the same evening, after the Lakshmi–Kuber puja. Anyone unwell, pregnant, nursing, diabetic or elderly eats as usual: the Yama diya and the puja are the day.
