The three boons

A thread is wound round the banyan seven times, for the wife who followed Yam down the road and argued her husband's life back out of him.

Savitri chose Satyavan knowing he had a year to live. She married him anyway and said nothing about it for the year.

On the day it came she went with him to cut wood, and when he lay down under a banyan she held his head, and Yam came and took him.

She followed. Yam told her to go back; she kept walking. He offered her a boon to be rid of her, and then another, and then a third — and she asked for sight for her father-in-law, his kingdom back, and then, carefully, for sons of her own body.

He granted it before he saw it. She had not argued about death at all. She had only made him say yes to a life that needed her husband in it.
