How to do the Sharad Navratri puja at home

Nine nights of the Devi, one form each day. About 60 minutes.

Every step is named here and the first 3 are given whole. The whole puja, every mantra with its meaning, is in the Kalava app.

Every offering one by one each morning, then the Kavach, the Argala and the Kilaka with the day's chapters of the Saptashati, and the aarti. About an hour each morning, longer on the first.

Sharad Navratri

Ghatasthapana

7:38 AM–11:25 AM · Columbus

The first morning, in the first third of the day while Pratipada holds: the jau sown, the kalash set on it, the Devi invited into it for the nine days, and the jyoti lit.

  1. Ghatasthapana

    Maa's place

    1. On the east or the north side of the puja room, wash the floor where Maa will be seated.
    2. Sprinkle a little Ganga jal over the place and over yourself.
    3. Set a chowki there with a red cloth over it, and place Maa's picture or murti on it.
    4. Keep everything for the kalash within reach before you begin.

The kalash is the Devi's seat for the nine days: it is set once, and not moved until it is taken down.
