Mangal dosha, with the exceptions the books print

Mangal in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th, counted from the lagna, the Moon and Shukra, and every relief applied before anything is said: the sign that frees the house, Mangal strong, Guru's aspect, the Moon with it. Most charts that raise it are set aside by the books themselves.

Why three seats

Muhurta Chintamani counts Mangal from the lagna, the Moon and Shukra. Many calculators count only the lagna, which is why two answers differ.

Other lists

North Indian software often counts 1, 4, 7, 8 and 12; Raman's South Indian reading counts 2, 4, 7, 8 and 12. The rule used here says which houses it counts.
