How to do the Kali Chaudas puja at home

Kheer and vadas are made, the first vadas are set at the crossroads, and the four-faced diya goes outside for the pitru.

   2. Set aside the broken and worn-out things the house no longer needs.

   2. Fry the vadas of soaked urad or moong dal in oil, with a hole in the middle of each.
   3. Keep the first batch aside, with a puri or two, for the kakdat.

   It is said that the more oil burns on this evening, the more of the house's quarrels leave with it.

   

3. At dusk

   1. A woman of the house takes the first vadas and the puri to the crossroads nearest the house, or to a quiet place outside.
   2. She draws a circle on the ground with water.
   3. She sets the vadas and the puri inside the circle, and comes home.
   4. Where the house keeps it, the old things set aside are left there too.

   Kakdat is the quarrelling and unease of a house; on this evening it is cast out with the vadas, so the new year can begin without it.
