How to do the Bhai Dooj puja at home

Brother and sister bathe and dress in clean clothes; the sister makes the thali ready.

   The sister's sankalp

   1. Fold your hands before your family's murti or picture.
   2. Say your sankalp in your own words: your name, that today is Kartik shukla dwitiya, and that you keep the day for your brother's long life.
   3. If you keep the vrat, say until when: until the tilak, or in Bengal until the phonta.

3. The morning

   The tilak thali

   1. On a thali set roli, chandan and akshat, a kalawa, and a ghee diya.
   2. Add the gola, paan leaves, supari, batashe, a few black chana and flowers.
   3. Add sweets, and keep a lota of water beside it.
   4. Keep the thali ready for the aparahna.
   

In the afternoon, while the dwitiya holds: the brother at his sister's house, the tilak, the aarti, and the meal from her hand.
